Cleaning Your Watering Spikes

Our watering spikes are porous to weep water directly to your plant roots slowly. Cleaning your watering spike will ensure that water continues to function.

We recommend at least once every six months that your watering spike is rinsed off and soaked in a 50:50 mixture of white vinegar and water. Soak the white section of the water spike for 24 hours. Rinse off the watering spike and return to everyday use.

You can clean more frequently as needed if you find that water is not flowing out of the spike reservoir after 48 hours.

Note: We have tried to deliver several forms of plant food through the watering spikes. Any plant foods with hydrogels or materials designed to absorb water and slow release the plant food will clog these watering spikes. We have had mixed success with MiracleGro Liquid All Purpose Plant Food.

We recommend adding plant food to your plants directly and not through the watering spike. Adding plant food spikes into the soil next to the water spike is also effective.
